Milan de Vries is an Associate Research Scholar at the SNF Agora Institute. He leads a project, working with Jae Yeon Kim, called Mapping the Modern Agora (MMA). The aim of this project is to use large-scale civic data sets and computational social science tools to illuminate the landscape of civic and political organizations in America. This big data approach to visualizing and researching civic life in America helps us better understand the ways in which the civic landscape shapes American democracy.

Milan is originally a molecular biologist with a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He subsequently spent the last decade applying data science and technology to political and civic organizing, including eight years as Director of Analytics at MoveOn.org.
